Root Canal Treatment is to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth. The procedure involves removing the dental pulp of the damaged tooth, cleaning, and disinfecting the tooth followed by filling and sealing. Every tooth has a prominent component which includes enamel, dentin and pulp. Pulp is that part of the tooth, which provides nutrients and nerves. A cavity in the tooth if left untreated, causes bacterial infection, pockets, bone loss and/or abscesses, which give rise to pain and swelling spreading to the face and head.
Deep Cavities left untreated
Steps of Root Canal Treatment:
Pulpectomy (Removal of Pulp Tissue)
Cleaning of canals of the teeth
Filling and rebuilding of tooth Structure
In some cases, where the tooth structure is extensively damaged, a post and crown is recommended to protect the tooth from fracture.
